Carb problems on 1994 Mercruiser 7.4 Thunderbolt V

A lot of those floats are the plastic type. They seem ok, but are saturated and to heavy. I’ve learned to just replace them. When it is running, look down the carb, you should see a mist, if there are any drips, it’s the float. It doesn’t show up when sitting.

Two grease zerks on trailer hub

Could put a 90* fitting on it and angle it to where you can get the gun on it?

Gee… reminded me of going down Siskiwit lake as a pre-teen. Going fishing and the little five horse outboard singing along. I happened to look back and the guy dow the lake was taking off, heading right for me! He was a bit of a distance away but if I didn’t look he would have got me. Hard to...

best muffs to use on mercruisers?

I agree that the rubber is too stiff on some of them. I’ve had to duct ape on a set to get enough water to go in the drive. I quit using those.

Dude brought his small outboard in and said he wanted a new impeller. When I took it apart, the housing was totally melted, replaced all that and tested the unit for leaks. All good. When he picked it up I asked him if he ran it without water? He said nope. ten minutes later I heard something...

I don’t care if I come in second, third, or more. Actually if I’m in third, I’m the first person in that position. That would make me the first person in third place, so I am first in that position?

Alternator and fuel pump on Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-D

Sounds lik your alternator is bad, but I would be removing and cleaning all battery connections completely, in clouding the grounds on the block. Get a hand held test meter, charge the battery fully, test battery before starting, then test after startup, you should get 13-14 volts from the...

Welcome to the Apostle islands. A 21’ isn’t too bad for the area, but be sure to check the weather often! It changes in a heartbeat! Where do you plan on launching from?

Frozen engine manifold cracks and likelihood of block survival

Wow, that motor is toast. We had a customer last fall that called and asked if his boat was winterized yet. Temps had dropped to 25* for a day or so. We checked his haulout paperwork, and he had not checked any of the boxes for winterizing the motor, or water system. He was mad, said when you...

    1985 Cheetah transom repair.

Yup take a bazillion pictures. I also took tons of measurements and drew a picture of where every thing was, so when replacing stuff it went back where it was, instead of crappy wood for the stringers I used marine plywood bonded together and slightly wider than factory. Be sure to cradle the...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - leak & transom service questions

While it’s apart you could seal the transom opening, install a vacuum pump and pull the moisture out that y can’t see. Surface moisture drys easily, deeper down it doesn't. .
